pamcash @ 11:44am: It looks like I finally have the internet at home, so hello again! By "internet" I mean whatever you would call browsing on a computer that's probably more than 10 years old, opening websites with very few pictures, and viewing fonts I haven't seen in ages. It absolutely cannot handle facebook, but ol' LJ is PamComputer Compatible! (If you try to log on to Facebook, you are likely to be eaten by a grue, unless you type "use sword on friends" in three turns or less).

I've BASICALLY finished moving, meaning I just have those last few things I forgot to get(oh, and a lot of cleaning to do at the old place). It's my first night here at the new Pamhole. I've been working on setting up furniture, organizing the room, and assembling stuff since 7AM this morning, but I don't feel tired at all. In fact I wish I were partying all night. Then again, I haven't tried laying down because I predict instant Zs.

A hugely energizing task was color-coding everything. Why not hang up all my clothes according to color? Soon I became a bit obsessed with it and made two gradients- color and grayscale. These gradients are accurate. This was about 3pm-ish on very little food. There was too much black stuff, so there is a black pile. Black objects go there too. If I stay here for years there will probably be assigned locations for each color -- not just clothes but books and pens and cups-- if I decide to be that crazy.

His answer to the poll numbers is really interesting, and really, it puts me greatly at ease.

It reminds me of why I really, genuinely like this guy.

I also like what Michelle says about "reading about it, and being in it", because I think it's so easy for all of us to get stuck in "blogger-mode" and forget about what it's really like out there in the country for people on a day-to-day basis. And I think only watching the media or reading the blogs really skews your view and makes it harder to see the bigger picture and the reality of a situation. It's so easy to get stuck in our own heads.

The rest of the special is in parts on Youtube by different uploaders, if anyone wants to watch them.

m_natale, posting in naturalliving @ 7:39pm: Itchy toes
Hey everyone!  Long time lurker, first time poster.
I have had athlete's foot between a few of my toes that I just can't seem to get rid of.  I've had it for several months.  It'll go away a little bit then come back again full force.  I have tried the OTC athlete's foot cream from Walgreen's, as well as witch hazel mixed with a little bit of tea tree oil.  Both of these seem to help on the surface for about a half a day or so, then right back to the insane itchiness!
Does anyone know of a sure fire way to get rid of this annoyance (preferably herbal or homeopathic)?
Thanks, in advance for any advice!

sihaya09 @ 7:12pm: All in all, a good day.
-- Spent the night of Yule having an A+ husband cuddle.
-- Got my LJ Santa assignment in on time. I didn't even need an extension for the first time ever.
-- Despite the hip-deep snow on the unplowed sidewalks (brrrr), I was at work on time.
-- Kitty de-wormer was less expensive than expected.
-- Spent part of the day making sample pieces for the shop that turned out to be quite popular.
-- I can pretty much take credit for a $$$ awesome last sale of the day where the customer left very satisfied.
-- Got a great holiday bonus from my boss-- am now closer to having ATS GS paid off.
-- Kitties have not knocked over the tree.
-- Came home to a notice that one of my packages from Turkey has in fact arrived and will be waiting for me tomorrow.
-- Received TAL decants in the nick of time.
-- Got an amaaaaaazing holiday package from [info]belladonnastrap.
-- Anixety went away; am feeling much better.

I have to work tomorrow but am very much looking forward to Thursday. I am putting together all of my holiday packages together then-- which will technically make most of 'em late, but hey! Better late than not at all. Um, ditto this for holiday cards. And belated wedding thank yous. I've been busy, okay?

Alright. Now for a few house chores, and a shower! J rented a movie and we're gonna have dinner and wine!

2. I want to add essential oils so that the laundry detergent has a good smell. If I put the oils in, will it make my clothes oily? Thanks so much for your help!

throwingstardna @ 5:01pm: In Case You Were Wondering
You know how sometimes you go to a concert to see a big artist, and you check out the merchandise they have for sale and it fucking sucks? It's simple and unimaginative or just bad? And you're like, "How can a performer this big have such crappy merchandise?"

Let me tell you how.

Because they waited until a week before the tour started to give their merchandising company a single logo and a low-res JPG with which to design and produce an entire tour line. Since there is no time to spend doing anything awesome, the designs created are fast and simple, and probably boring.

That's why.

And then on top of it all, after the manager has had days to review the submissions and has actually approved most of them, on the day that you have to send all the art out in order to have everything produced in time for the first show, the manager frantically calls flipping out because "You used the wrong logo!" (as if they haven't been staring at it for five days) the logo in question being the one they sent you to use.

So now you get to redesign everything with the correct logo, which they now send you, and resubmit new visuals and re-upload the print files after they have approved them (for the 2nd time).

No doubt when the tour starts and there is no merchandise available for the first show or two, the same manager will call screaming at you for dropping the ball and not getting the stuff done in time.

Just sayin' ...

milamberrex @ 4:31pm: Yes, it's true, Verizon Sucks

Once again, I have to state that Verizon sucks.  I have a love-hate relationship with the big V.  Usually their service is absolutely reliable even though it is overpriced.  Their new every two is a big steaming pile of crap though.  I have had nothing but problems most every time I have tried to upgrade.  I have blogged about some of those problems previously:

http://milamberrex.livejournal.com/tag/verizon

The problem this time is their continued incompetence.  I called today to ask nicely if they were actually going to make me wait until 12/30/09 to upgrade to the Droid since that is my eligible date.  The rep told me that he thought he could get it pulled up for me as a long standing customer – note this is IMPORTANT.  After being on hold forever, he came back and told me that I could go ahead an upgrade but at the full freaking retail price.  He then stated that as I had not even been a Verizon customer for two years that Verizon was not willing to move my upgrade date up by 8 days.  I cut him off and told him wait a moment, I have been a customer for almost 10 years.  He responded well the system says your account is less than 2 years old.  I told him to wait a moment, I moved my parent’s over to my account from T-Mobile in September and that the Verizon store screwed up my account so bad that it took 3 hours in the store for this transfer to happen; to fix the problem, they had to roll me over to another account.  The CSR then questioned why I would move my parent’s over to my account, not really his business, in my opinion.  I explained that they were on T-Mobile, near retirement, and where they are retiring too, Verizon is the only wireless carrier that has any signal strength.

After poking around my account, he finally found my account that the store had screwed up.  His response was well, it doesn’t matter that you’ve been a customer, the answer is still no.  Granted, he was more tactful in his answer, but this is basically what he said.

I was prepared for a no answer when I called, but what really pissed me off is that I was a VIP customer BEFORE the store screwed up my account.  I began getting early upgrade offers in April of this year for being a valued, long-time customer.  Now when I ask for a simple 8 day early upgrade, I’m told I haven’t even been a customer for two years.  Before adding my parent’s to my account, I was on an unlimited calling/data/SMS/MMS with mobile broadband for about $150/month ($3600/2 yr contract).  Now that I have moved my parent’s to a family share plan with me, I’m out $253/month ($6072/2 yr contract); my parents are paying $100/month to me on their bill until they retire.  We may have to revisit the plan once they retire since they will be on a fixed income.  Still, it pisses me off that Veri$on would be so freaking greedy when I’m spending a small fortune on their service.  I would understand this attitude if I was asking for months early consideration or if they hadn’t previously been sending me early upgrade offers, but this is beyond tacky to me.

Now that I’ve moved my parents over to Verizon, I have to figure out if I even want to stay with them after this.  The downside is that if I do not stay with Verizon, I will not have any phone service when visiting family when they move in 2010.  I’m just tired of the fraking crap one has to go through with Verizon to get anywhere.  If I do decide to stay with them, I can’t help but wonder what kind of freaking obstacle they will throw in my way when I try to cash in on my New Every 2.  It’s obstacles to upgrade credits is the only portion of Verizon service that is 100% reliable in my opinion.

If you are considering Verizon as your wireless carrier, I would urge you to flee as far and fast as you can.

I thought it would do me so good, personally, and those of you clearly sick and tired of my own recent foray into negative posts over the healthcare legislation, to ask all who would care to, to join me in voting for your favorite accomplishment of Obama's first year.

Indeed, there have been many!

So let me also start out by offering my sincere apology to you if I have overloaded your senses with my complaining, and then offer up my own vote for Obama's best accomplishment during his first year in office.

This one's a twofer. I give A+s to Obama & Clinton for pulling this off as a team: Reestablishing good relations and goodwill with so many of our friends and neighbors in the rest of the world!

Compared to the way things were going with our foreign affairs of just a year ago, the way we are making diplomatic progress now is as if we aren't even living in the same century, as if we all stepped out of the dark ages, as if, well, we actually have competent, thinking leaders at the helm.

Do you have a favorite Obama accomplishment of 2009? I was thinking if we got enough of them listed then we might even put them up to a poll and vote up a community favorite, if you're game! :)

punkpyroprncess @ 4:02pm: Finding...
The past couple of days has been interesting. Gotta love the snow and all it's 26in of glory. I had to go into work late on sun because well lets face it waldbaums didn't open till 10:45 and i had work at 9. Well i get there around 12:15 with savino and our great snow adventure. Her car was lodged into someone's front yard and she would of had to walk to work on that day. I pushed all my snow fears aside and I drove to her house and then since none of the side streets were plowed i had to take the long way to work. I saw an abandoned Toyota on the entrance ramp to the service road and i thought shit as my jeep didn't want to go in that general area and was getting stuck in the process. I screamed "god dammit jeep your so much better than a fucking Toyota don't do this to me now!!" and somehow i got unstuck. So I guess the moral of the story is yell at my jeep if you want it to do things it didn't want to do the the first place! lol

::ahem::

on a sadder note I think sunshine is on her way out as well. Well she is 18, and I seriously don't blame her for even lasting this long. I really thought after putting her sister to sleep that she would die weeks later but it's almost a year and she is still here. She can't walk now and we have to pick her up for her to do anything. I want to scream at my mom because she is like I can't handle another death of an animal ariel was to much. Dude she has no right to say that about ariel, she was the one that chickened out and didn't have the dignity to go put her to sleep. She was in so much pain I did it she was my cat I loved her enough to be there and be brave and hold her till they gave her the shots to put her to sleep. Do you know what that does to a person? I felt like total shit I didn't know if it was the right thing to do. But now I look back I knew I did the right thing because if humans had that kind of choice and I was in her shoes I would do it. So I am on death watch with sunshine, I really, REALLY hope she doesn't die on Christmas, I don't think I could handle an animal die on a holiday AGAIN!

bron_the_brin, posting in naturalliving @ 9:37pm: Virgin coconut oil - help!
X-posted to [info]beauty101

I live in Sweden and I can't find virgin coconut oil from shops, and the only place I've found that sells it online has sky high prices. I turned to Ebay (which I've never used) and it took me ages of googling to find items that will ship to Sweden.
Since I've never bought this before, I don't really know what the "right" stuff should be like. Basically, I want at least a litre (32oz) so I can start using it for homemade deo, for my skin, maybe for my hair and I want to try it as lube, since I'm very yeast infection prone.

I have a few questions. )

PS. I have about 13 more hours before the bidding ends, so I'm in a hurry! Thank you once again!

While I'm at it, I want to share something I've found working for my hair. I've always had hair that never felt soft and got greasy quite quickly. A couple of months ago I looked around for natural ways of washing hair and since then I've done the following after washing my hair with shampoo and conditioner: I mix a third of a decilitre of lemon with a tablespoon of honey with some warm water (so the honey melts) and even more cold water in a large cup. After washing my hair, I rinse my hair with this, then wash it out quickly with water (but leaving some of it in). I've noticed that my hair becomes so much softer right afterwards and also when it's dry. The other day I forgot to rinse my hair with this stuff and my hair felt like steel wool! Dunno what's making my hair soft out of these things, but it softens my hair! :D
